Dorie Cannella

Dorcas Joy “Dorie” Cannella, age 77, of Gravois Mills passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at her home. It was the 10th of June in 1943 when Rev. Marvin and Paula Klug Kammrath welcomed Dorcas into their lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was a 1961 graduate of Hales Corners and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in education in 1988. Dorie married Leroy Leman who preceded her in death. The father of her two children, Oliver Morris, also preceded her in death in 2017. Jennifer and Joel Jennings were born of this union. On May 21, 2014 she was united in marriage to Sam Cannella. Dorie spent her life taking care of people. She worked as an in-home health worker and also as a caregiver for nursing homes. She had many enjoyments in life spanning from traveling and cruises to reading and listening to Christian music while doing daily devotions. Her biggest enjoyment was always her family. Left to carry on her legacy is her husband, Sam; her children, Jennifer Jennings of St. Joseph, Illinois and Joel Jennings and wife Angela of Colorado Springs; six grandchildren, Logan, Alissa, Colton, Sydney, Kylie, & Jaren; two great grandchildren, Harlyn and Santiago; her siblings, Holly Giertz of Strasburg, Illinois, John Kammrath and wife Sara of San Antonio, Texas, Sue Kittel and husband Chuck of Pingree Grove, Illinois, and Dan Kammrath of Peoria, Arizona; along with many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. In keeping with her wishes, she was cremated. Graveside service will be held May 22, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. in Strasburg, Illinois at Grace Cemetery.
