Donie Lean Anderson, age 71, of Stover, died unexpectedly Saturday, May 14, 2011, while in flight to St. Marys Health Center in Jefferson City.
She was born March 14, 1940, in Stover, the daughter of Arbry L. and Clara L. Nelson Newman, both deceased. Donie married Leo Olin Carver on May 28, 1955, and to this union five children were born. He preceded her in death December 27, 1982. In October of 1976, she married Hugh Anderson, and to this union one daughter was born. Hugh also preceded her in death January 6, 1991.
Donie was a devoted mother, busy raising her six children. In the 1970's Donie and her husband owned and operated Carver Café and Grill. She later worked at Town and Country Upholstery and Furnell Construction, both located in Sedalia. She retired from the Pioneer Restaurant in Versailles.
She was an accomplished seamstress, and was known for making scrub tops for many people in the area. She enjoyed quilting, cooking and gardening. Her grandchildren affectionately called her "Happening Granny and Jack of all Trades," because she was so capable of doing anything.
Donie enjoyed being outdoors where she could fish, hunt mushrooms and gather rocks. However, her greatest enjoyment came from being with her family. She was known to always have a deck of cards on hand and looked forward to her "Pitch playing nights" at her brother James' house.
Survivors include her six children and their spouses, Steven Lee and Brenda Carver and Susan and J.W. Nash all of Stover; Sally and Jim Douglas of Florence; Sara and Tom Couch of Barnett; Stewart Bradley Carver of Florence, Arizona and Lillian Dowell of Fortuna; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Christine Newman and Elmer and Debi Newman all of Stover; a brother-in-law, Eddie Simon of Independence; ten grandchildren, Lee Carver II, Rebecca Zeyer, Jason Nash, Leslie Nash, Jesse Douglas and wife Rusty Kay, Amanda Douglas, James Douglas, Serrisa Everhart and husband Brian, Arbrey Komrska and husband Willy and Donna Anderson; seven step grandchildren, Mike Chinn, Wendy Mahew, Angel Mahew, Chuck Dowell, Amber Dowell, Randy Couch and Jeff Couch, fifteen great grandchildren, fourteen step-great grandchildren, also nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was also preceded in death by six brothers, Clifford, J.C. Virl, Robert, Gene and his twin and two sisters, Betty Newman Simon and Cresteen Newman.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 18, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover with Rev. Andrew Anderson officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasant Union Cemetery near Stover.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 17, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Donie Anderson memorial fund.
