Don Franklin Cashman

October 8, 1936 — July 20, 2017

Don Franklin Cashman, age 80, of Sedalia, formerly of Versailles, passed away Thursday, July 20, 2017, at his home.  He was born October 8, 1936, in Kansas City, Kansas the youngest son of Lloyd W. and Thelma E. Shineman Cashman.  Don was united in marriage to Phyllis Kirwan in 1963 in Turner, Kansas.  Phyllis survives at their home.  He was a graduate of Wyandotte High School  and served his country in the United States Marine Corps.  As a young man, Don worked for Swift Meat Processing in Kansas City, Kansas and served as a police officer with the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department.  After moving to the Versailles area he was employed as a transport officer with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department, was a member of the Versailles Rural Fire Department and retired as supervisor of the Missouri Department of Corrections furniture factory and refinishing division in Jefferson City.  Don was member of the York Rite and the Abdallah Shrine in Kansas City, Kansas and a 32nd degree Mason with the Masonic Lodge 320 in Versailles.  He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed working on the farm and was most at home on his John Deere tractor.  For the past few years he and Phyllis had resided in Sedalia to be near their son and grandchildren.  In addition to his wife Phyllis, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Robin Cashman of Katy, Texas and Rob and Lisa Cashman of Sedalia; three grandsons, Nicholas, Lucas, and William Cashman; two step grandsons, Levi and Isaiah Dixon all of Sedalia; two nephews and a niece, Bill Cashman III, Kurt Cashman and Barbara Cashman all of the Denver area; along with other relatives and friends.  Don was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bill Cashman II and sister-in-law Dee.  In keeping with his wishes, Don will be cremated.
