Deo Van Marcum

Deo Van Marcum, age 81 of Tipton, MIssouri died at home March 16, 2018 with his sons and family close by. An only child, he was born November 12, 1936 in Otterville, Missouri to Winford Earl and Opal Steele Marcum (Thomas). Deo grew up in the area and graduated from Tipton High School.

January of 1955, Deo joined the US Navy and November 10, the same year, he and Marilynn Schmidt were married. In October of 1957 Deo transferred to Naval Reserve and remained active until May of 1962. During his time of service he received a National Defense Service Medal.

Deo and Marilynn were blessed with four sons and also with 61 years together until her passing September 28, 2017. Sadly, Deo lost their son Brian on December 28, 2017, only three months after losing his wife. Their son Brent is also deceased.

Deo operated heavy equipment and worked for the Local 101 Union and really enjoyed his work until retirement. He belonged to the Sportsman's Club, Bunceton Lion's Club, American Legion, Knights of Columbus and Tipton Country Club. He was happy working in his garden and yard and being on the golf course. He took great pride in watching his sons participate in golf tournaments. Deo loved being with his kids and grandkids.

Preceding Deo in death were his parents; his wife Marilynn; two sons Brent and Brian.

Those surviving Deo are his sons Mark and his wife Rhonda of Natalia, Texas, Keith of Tipton, Missouri; granddaughters Rhea Marcum and Doug Hampton of Sedalia, Missouri, Tabitha Essig and her husband Matt and Ashley Weeks and her husband Andy , all of Aledo, Illinois; great-grandchildren Jarek and Zachary Brown, Landon and Lana Weeks, Tristan Frick and Mattilynn, Trey and Trevon Essig.

Funeral services for Deo Van Marcum will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Tipton, Missouri and burial immediately following at St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M., Monday, March 19, 2018 also at Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Tipton.
