Dennis M. "Mike" Skaggs, Jr., age 42, of Jefferson City, died Friday, July 1, 2011, at his home following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born December 15, 1968, in Fort Polk, Louisiana a son of Dennis M. Sr., and Sandra Cantrell Skaggs.
Mike enlisted in the US Army, receiving a Medical Discharge in Basic Training. He earned an Associates Degree from Metro Business College in Jefferson City.
He was currently employed with Wal-Mart on Stadium Blvd in Jefferson City.
Mike was a member of the Southridge Baptist Church in Jefferson City.
He enjoyed target shooting, playing his guitar and his drums.
Survivors include his wife, Wendy Skaggs of the home; his father and stepmother, Dennis M. Sr., and Judy Skaggs of Loose Creek; his mother and stepfather, Sandra and Paul Hoh of Mount Pleasant, Texas; his paternal grandmothers, Lorraine Skaggs of St. Louis and Louise Bryer of Belleville; one son, Marty Carender of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Shelby and Kyle Stephan of Fulton; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Patrick and Cara Skaggs of Nevada; Peter and Amanda DeLuca of St. Louis; Todd and Lynne Skaggs of Wapakoneta, Ohio and Michael DeLuca, Jr., of St. Louis; one sister, Mary Brockman of Loose Creek, 17 nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfathers, Edward Skaggs and James Bryer and his maternal grandparents, Everett and Mildred Cantrell.
In keeping with his wishes, Mike will be cremated. A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 5, at the Southridge Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Zamkus officiating. Friends will be received from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the church on Tuesday. Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Enloe Cemetery west of Russellville.
