Delores M. Twitchel

February 12, 1937 — November 4, 2015

Delores M. Twitchel, age 78, of Russellville, passed away, Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at Golden Living Center in Jefferson City, following a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.
She was born February 12, 1937, in Russellville, a daughter of Ralph and Mable Stevens Scrivner. On October 3, 1959, in Russellville, Delores was united in marriage to Les Twitchel, who preceded her in death April 21, 2005.
Delores was a graduate of Russellville High School and received her bachelor’s degree in education from Lincoln University.
Delores combined her love of music and teaching, becoming a K-12 music teacher and a middle and high school English teacher. She began her career with the Russellville school district. She also taught in Jamestown, Odessa and retired from the Eugene school district.
She was a faithful member of the Mt. Olive Baptist church, playing the organ every Sunday until her health failed her. She was also a member of the Mt. Olive Gospel Singers. Delores was a published author, penning the book “Wagon’s Ho.” She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by two children: Cheryl Stroup and husband Jeff of Russellville and Brian Twitchel of Missouri; four siblings, Lina Steenbergen and husband Gene of Jefferson City; Nancy Althouse of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; Carolyn Hancock and husband Bill of Georgia and Randy Scrivner and wife Joyce of Jefferson City; three grandchildren, Amanda Heinrich of Russellville; Adam Stroup and wife Alycia of New Bloomfield and Blake Stoup of Bedford, Indiana; three great grandchildren, Alexis, Matthew and Tara Kirchner, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her step father, Clayton Morris, and two brothers, Kent and Ralph R. Scrivner.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 6, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church on Route AA in Russellville with Bro. Alan Earls officiating. Interment will be in Enloe Cemetery west of Russellville. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until service time at the church on Friday. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
