Deborah Jane Geritz, age 53, of Jefferson City, passed away Friday, September 12, 2014, at her home after a decade long battle with cancer.
She was born July 8, 1961, in Jefferson City, the oldest child of Ronald and Janie Hahn Morrow.
On July 2, 1983, at the Hickory Hill Baptist Church, Deborah was united in marriage to Greg Geritz, who survives at their home.
She was a 1979 graduate of Eugene High School and a 1983 graduate of CMSU in Warrensburg, with a degree in Education. In 2008, Deborah obtained her Master's in Education from William Woods University.
She retired in 2013, from the Miller County R-I School District in Eldon, where she taught for a total of 30 years, twenty-four of those as a third grade teacher.
Deborah could be found most evenings at the scorer's table in the Eugene High School Gymnasium or ball field, where she kept the score book and ran the clock for the ballgames for many years. She also enjoyed spending time reading a good book. However, her greatest enjoyment came from being with her family.
She was a member of the Hickory Hill Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of 31 years, she is survived by her parents, Ronald and Janie Morrow of Eugene; three sons, Brandon Geritz and wife Julie, Malta Bend; Chad Geritz, and wife AJ, Eugene and Drew Geritz, Eugene; two brothers, Roland Morrow and wife Karla and Shelby Morrow and wife Tawnya all of Eugene; one sister, Sarah Collier and husband Gamal, St. Peters; one granddaughter who is due in December, her mother-in-law, Anita Geritz, and sister-in-law, Peggy Brown and husband Curt all of Lee's Summit; along with 13 nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. Deborah is preceded in death by her father-in-law Hank Geritz of Lee's Summit.
Visitation services are scheduled to be held Monday, September 15, 2014 at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville from 4-8pm. The funeral will be held at 2pm Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Cole County R-5 High School. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Deborah J. Geritz Scholarship Fund.
