Claris I. Richardson, age 89, of Versailles, died Sunday, January 15, 2012, at University Hospital in Columbia.
She was born July 23, 1922, in Glensted, a daughter of Lewis and Lucy Fisher Igo. On February 1, 1941, in Olathe, Kansas, Claris married her high school sweetheart Paul Richardson, who preceded her in death January 29, 2000.
Claris received her teaching degree from Central Teachers College (Central Missouri State University) in Warrensburg and a degree in education from Rutgers University in New Jersey. Her career began in New Jersey, where she taught for 20 years, before moving to Missouri where she retired from the Kansas City School District. Claris taught at every grade level in a teaching career that spanned more than forty years, until she was forced to retire for health reasons. Following her retirement, she worked for FEMA to help disaster victims.
Claris served her country in the United States Coast Guard.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Raytown.
She enjoyed reading, writing poetry, sewing, cooking and most of all spending time with her family.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Ervin Keen of Versailles; three grandchildren, Ronald David Mason and wife Cindy of Raymore, Michelle Badger-Kuhn of Kansas City and Mark Keen and wife Kathy of Clinton; eight great grandchildren, Amanda Gupta and husband Roshan, Brandon Keen, Ronald D. Mason, Jr., Justin Bender, Haley Gray, James Daniel Kuhn, Christopher Kuhn, and Alan Jach, one sister, Daisey Dennis of Independence; one sister-in-law, Mary Igo Hardon of Kansas City; seven nieces and nephews, also great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Claris was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Cecil and Lowell Igo, one sister, Vera Lou French, one great grandson, Bobby Paul Mason and one nephew, Ronnie Igo.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 21, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover. Interment will be in the St. John UCC Cemetery in Florence.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home on Saturday.
