Charles "Chuck" R. "Sonny" Amos, Sr.

Charles "Chuck" R. "Sonny" Amos, Sr., age 78, of Stover, died Monday, October 3, 2011, in route to the Harry S Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital in Columbia.
He was born October 23, 1932, in Platte County, Missouri a son of Etna and Lucille Stubbs Amos, who preceded him in death.
Chuck married Sharon Stuteville, and to this union two children were born. She preceded him in death. On August 16, 1979, in Johnson County, Kansas he married Adeline Shannon who preceded him in death August 7, 2006.
He was an Army veteran serving his county in the Korean War.
Chuck was a plumber by trade, employed with the Shawnee Mission School District. He also owned A & A Septic and Plumbing in Olathe, Kansas.
Chuck and Adeline made Stover their home in the late 1980's, after moving from Johnson County, Kansas.
He was active in Galloway-Martens American Legion Post 343 in Stover and had been an active member of the Stover Lions Club.
Chuck enjoyed gardening and was an accomplished wood craftsman. He owned Chuck's Crafts, located at his home and was most recently known for his beautiful flag cases.
Survivors include his longtime companion, Mary Ann Martin of the home; seven children, Chuck Amos, Jr., of Springhill, Kansas; Peggy Gaytan of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Paula Conklin and husband Larry of Kansas City, Kansas; Carol Ann Stewart and husband Jim of Arkansas; Norma Searcy of Shawnee, Kansas; Sandy States of Wilson, Kansas and Mary Rodgers and husband Rick of Olathe, Kansas; one sister, Helen Sue Schulte of Parkville; one brother, Dean Tye of Missouri; also 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Chuck was also preceded in death by two sons, Paul and Rick Shannon and one brother, Glen Amos.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. Thursday, October 6, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover. Inurnment, with military funeral honors by Galloway-Martens American Legion Post 343, will follow in the Stover Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Galloway-Martens American Legion Post 343. The family invites everyone to the Turtle Cove Coffee Shop immediately following the service.
