Cecil L. Cook, age 70, of Stover, died Saturday, November 5, 2011, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
He was born October 10, 1941, in Rockport, Missouri a son of Cleo and Carrie Thornton Cook.
On November 28, 1966, at Pope Air Force Base, located at Fort Bragg, in North Carolina, Cecil was united in marriage to Daisy Treadway Greene, who preceded him in death November 7, 2010.
The Cook family lived in Rockport, until 1956. At that time Cecil's mother, stepfather Bill Grebe and his brothers and sister moved to the Old Town of Proctor, where they purchased farmland and made Central Missouri their home.
He was a 1960 graduate of Morgan County R-I high school in Stover.
He worked as a construction worker around the Lake of the Ozarks until he joined the Army in 1965, doing basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood. He was transferred to Ft. Bragg, being assigned as Helicopter Direct Support Unit where he obtained the rank of specialist fourth class. Following his discharge from the Army in 1967, Cecil and Daisy returned to Stover to begin raising a family.
Cecil worked as a truck driver and retired as an agricultural mechanic from Klein's Tractor Supply in Versailles. He served as a reserve deputy sheriff and as Stover Chief of Police.
He was a member of the Lake of the Ozarks Coon Club, where he was an avid coon hunter between 1978 and 1983. He also enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and working on hotrods.
He is survived by five children, Richard "Bo" Greene, Lisa Greene Lindeman, Angelia Wheeler, and Cecilia Wilson and husband Wes all of Stover and Christina Burke and husband Brian of Versailles; one brother Jim Cook and wife Dorothy of Rockport; one sister, Nancy Cable of Stover; a sister-in-law Karolyn Cook of Gravois Mills; also ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife, Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, two daughters, Pamela Diane Craig in 1980 and Julia King in 2001, and one brother, Robert A. Cook.
A Celebration of Cecil's life will be held Friday, November 11, at the First Baptist Church in Stover. The celebration will begin with a carry-in dinner at 5:00 P.M. Please feel free to bring a favorite dish and then stay to share special remembrances with Cecil's family. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Cecil Cook Memorial fund.
