Calvin H. Viebrock

Calvin Henry Viebrock, 90, of Stover, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2015 at Golden Age Living Center in Stover.
He was born Oct. 16, 1924, the son of Rudolph L. and Emma C. Hagenah Viebrock of Stover. He was baptized November 9, 1924 and confirmed May 7, 1939, at Christ Lutheran Church in Stover. The confirmation verse chosen was John 15:1-4, "I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away; and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me."
On May 26, 1946, he married Margaret Mae Marriott at Christ Lutheran Church in Stover. She preceded him in death on March 7, 2002.
He was born and raised in Stover, where he graduated from Stover High School in 1942. He served his country from March 1943 to March 1946 in the U.S. Army in World War II. He served as an Infantry Recon Scout for HQ. Co. 80th Tank Bn., 8th Armored Div., attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. The battles and campaigns he was involved in include the Ardennes, Rhineland, and all Central Europe. His decorations and citations included the Victory Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, European-African - Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal.
He worked part-time after high school at Geary Oil Co. in Stover. After returning from the Army, he worked for Fischer-Tagtmeyer Hardware in Stover, before working for Walter Fischer as a truck driver hauling milk. In 1954 he went into business for himself at the Skelly Station in downtown Stover. In 1961 he moved to the new Skelly Station at the corner of Highways 52/135 (presently Casa Bonita). In 1973 he went in partnership with his son, Ed Viebrock, and established Viebrock's Auto Service in Stover. He retired in 1985 after surgery for cancer.
He was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church in Stover, where he sang in the choir for many years, served on Church Council, and mowed the church and parsonage grounds. He was a member of Galloway-Martens American Legion in Stover and the local VFW.
Calvin and his wife Margaret always had a large garden. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, playing cards, all types of sports, singing and mowing for businesses and the school in Stover. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and caring friend.
He is survived by three sons and their wives, Ed and Connie Viebrock of Stover, Bob and Jane Viebrock of Smithton, and Kevin and Carrie Viebrock of Camdenton; seven grandchildren, Bobi and Danny Mayfield of Omaha, Neb., Rob and Hollie Viebrock of Stover, Shawn and Beth Viebrock of Stover, Cherie Viebrock and Raymie Wehmeyer of Stover, Lori and Brian Eifert of Lincoln, Michael Viebrock and Meri Viebrock of Camdenton; 13 great-grandchildren, Brianna and Danny Mayfield, Jake Viebrock and Charli Carl, Joe and Megan Viebrock, Kylie, Kole, Luke, and Levi Viebrock, Hayley and Tori Luebbering, Westin and Brady Eifert; one great-great grandson, Tate Viebrock; one sister, Irma Kroeschen; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Delmon and Waneta Marriott and Calvin and Mary Marriott; nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife of 56 years, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Marie Holsten Ehlers, Mildred Nolting, and Emmagene Witte.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug 24, 2015 at Christ Lutheran Church in Stover. Graveside services and interment with military honors will follow in the Stover Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23 at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover.
