Billy G. Payne age 79, of Russellville, died Friday, November 6, 2009, at the Riverview Nursing Home in Mokane.
He was born January 26, 1930, in Russellville, a son of Raymond A. and Nola Scott Payne.
He was a 1949 graduate of Russellville High School, where he was on the basketball team and in the 4H Club. He served as a PFC in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Billy had resided in Russellville for most of his life. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Billy had worked for the Hunter Stave Mill in California, McGraw Edison and then the Missouri Highway Department, both in Jefferson City, until illness forced his retirement.
He is survived by one brother, Roger Cletis Payne of Jefferson City; two sisters, Bonna Lou Rapp and husband James of Texarkana, Arkansas and Judy Stephens and husband Frank of Jefferson City; one nephew, Ken Thompson and wife Lysha of Tuscumbia; three nieces, Cheryl Pope and husband David of Texarkana, Arkansas; Jan Gilliam of Jefferson City and Pat Acton and husband Darrell of New Bloomfield, also great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, Cleora and a sister-in-law, Bertha Payne.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 10, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville with Tom Crain officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in rural Eugene.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 10, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville. Memorial contributions are suggested to Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
