Betty Lee Shikles, 88, of Boonville, passed away Monday, January 1, 2018, at Cooper County Memorial Hospital in Boonville, Missouri. She was born January 8, 1929, in Russellville, Missouri, the daughter of the late Herbert and Nancy Ellen (Myers) Glenn.
She was united in marriage on October 23, 1948, at the Enon Baptist Church parsonage in Enon, Missouri to James Leroy Shikles who preceded her in death on July 10, 2011.
At the age of 16, when her mother passed away, Betty helped her father to raise her siblings and also helped to work on the family farm. When Betty married Leroy, she was a loving and caring homemaker to her family and also worked with her husband as a secretary for Guy’s Food in Boonville. She eventually worked as a clerk for the Missouri License Bureau in Boonville.
She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary in Boonville. In her spare time, Betty enjoyed gardening, canning, watching birds, crocheting, and rocking babies.
Survivors include five children, Diana Dorian, Houston, TX; Lynn (John) Sherwood, Joplin, MO; Carol (Hans) Stretz, Boonville; Julie (Chuck) Dalton, Boonville; Janie (David) Harris, Kansas City, Mo; daughter-in-law, Dee Shikles, Boonville; fourteen grandchildren, Grant Dorian, Paige Dorian, Heather Carney, Chris Shikles, Brett Shikles, Johanna Johns, Blake Groves, Sarah Groves, Clinton Sherwood, Robert Stretz, Tyler Stretz, Hannah Stretz, Jared Friedrich, Gracie Imhoff; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Rosemary Robertson, Russellville; and Dorothy (Larry) Bryant, Kansas City, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Rick Shikles; and a brother, Bill Glenn.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Homes in Russellville.
Funeral service will be 12 noon Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Homes in Russellville, with Danny Proctor officiating.
Burial will be in Enloe Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Autism Foundation in care of Jordan Shikles, #SuperFinn, in honor of Betty’s great-great-grandson, Finn Shikles.
