Avis Ann Welpman, age 88, of Stover, died Monday, April 2, 2012, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia.
She was born November 24, 1923, in Houstonia, a daughter of Gus and Flora Houseworth Henderson. On March 25, 1950, in Liberty, Avis was united in marriage to Carol L. Welpman, who preceded her in death April 30, 1990.
She was a graduate of Stover High School. She entered St. Luke's School of Nursing in Kansas City, receiving her R.N. after attending school and working at the hospital for seven years. She also served her country stateside as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Nursing Corp. during World War II.
Avis co-owned the Missouri Goldfish Hatchery in Stover with her husband, and later her son and daughter-in-law.
She was a devoted wife and mother, spending many years caring for her daughter Kristina.
She was a faithful member of the Stover United Methodist Church.
She had been a member of the Hatchery bowling team and enjoyed spending time tending to her vegetable garden.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Sandy Welpman of Stover; two grandsons, Daniel Welpman and wife Addie and Bryan Welpman and fiancee Leslie Nash all of Stover; two great grandsons, Gavin and Austin Welpman, one sister, Geneva Lindsey of Nashville, Tennessee, also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Kristina Welpman and two sisters, Georgene Nichols and Janice Magden.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover with Rev. Diane Cutler officiating. Interment will be in the Stover Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Stover United Methodist Church.
