Arthur Douglas Peoples, age 90 died October 19, 2017 in Syracuse, Missouri at his son's home.
One of five children "Douglas" was born January 14, 1927 near Syracuse, Missouri to Arthur J. and Lucina A. Billingsley Peoples.
He served in the US Army during WW II overseas, receiving an Army of Occupation Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and a World War II Victory Medal.
May 20, 1949, Douglas and Alma L. Combs married and were together for over 61 years until her death June 3, 2010. They were blessed with five children.
Douglas worked for Missouri Highway Department as highway maintenance as a young man. He and his brother-in-law Jiggs Combs purchased the Syracuse Elevator and ran that business for approximately 10 years, after which he farmed for the remainder of his working life, retiring at the age of 67. Since retirement, he has enjoyed activities such as card playing and traveling. His two favorite pastimes however, were horseshoe pitching where he achieved Championship status on two different occasions at a World Wide Horse Pitching Tournament and bowling, where he as recently as four weeks ago bowled a game of 204 pins and a series of 504.
Preceding Arthur Douglas Peoples in death were his parents; his wife; a grandson John Timothy O'Brien and great grandson James David Peoples;
brothers George and David Peoples; sisters Anna Mae Moon and Nora Belle Cramer.
Surviving Douglas are his sons William David Peoples and his wife Barbara of Syracuse, Missouri and Mitchel Lee Peoples of Tipton, Missouri; daughters Blenda Lou O'Brien of Tipton, Missouri, Virginia Fay Hibdon and her husband Carl of Tipton, Missouri and Dixie Louise Rigel and her husband Albert of Jefferson City, Missouri; 15 grandchildren; 23 great- grandchildren and 6 great- great- grandchildren.
Funeral services for Arthur Douglas Peoples will be at 11:00 A.M., Monday, October 23, 2017 at Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Tipton, Missouri with interment immediately following at Olive Branch Cemetery south of Syracuse, Missouri. Visitation will be held from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. Sunday, October 22, 2017 also at the Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Tipton, Missouri
