Arlene Stayton, 83, of Tipton passed away Friday, October 12, 2018 at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, Missouri. She was born June 17, 1935, one of 7 children born to Earl Raymond and Bertie Lorene Moore in the Pisgah community of Cooper County.
Arlene was a graduate of Prairie Home High School Class of 1953. She attended and was baptized at Pisgah Baptist Church. Following high school graduation she moved to Kansas City and worked for Kansas City Life Insurance Company where she met her first husband. After her marriage in 1954, she worked as a secretary for Blue Cross and Blue Shield and as a transcription clerk at New York Life Insurance Company. She moved to Ferguson in 1974 and then to Springfield, Illinois in 1975. Moving back to the St. Louis area in 1978 she settled in St. Charles and began working for the Department of Defense, US Army, in St. Louis and when the post closed in 1997 she moved to Huntsville, Alabama to finish her 20-year civil service career retiring December 31, 1998 as a GS9. At that time she moved to Tipton.
Arlene married Edward B. Huffman on February 26, 1955 and they were the parents of their son Edwin. Edward passed away August 21, 1969. She and Rue Glenn Stayton were married June 6, 1998 and he passed away February 14, 2004.
Arlene also found time to continue her education by attending Maple Woods Metropolitan Community College while living in Kansas City and earned an A.B. degree from St. Louis Community College in Florissant Valley.
She was treasurer of the Grow and Glow Garden Club in Tipton and was a member of Learning in Retirement Club in Jefferson City. She especially enjoyed book clubs and flower gardening. She also loved traveling, bowling and watching pro football, avidly following the fortunes of the Kansas City Chiefs.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and an infant brother, Roy in 1952.
She is survived by her son Edwin Ray Huffman and his wife Carolyn of Elmore, Ohio; grandson Aaron Huffman and his wife Shay of Liberty, Missouri; great-grandchildren Collin, Ryleigh, and Ainsleigh Huffman; brother Donald Moore and his wife June of Independence, Missouri; sisters Neta Dishion and her husband Charles of California, Missouri; Mary Haldiman and her husband Harold of Jamestown; Linda Albin and her husband Dwain of Jefferson City; Candy Schuster and her husband Kenny of Tipton; sisters-in-law Linda Thurman and her husband Paul of Columbia; and Mary Ellen Fahrendorf and her husband Joe of Boonville; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Arlene Stayton will be 11:00 AM Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Tipton with burial following in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10 AM Thursday prior to the funeral service.
Memorials are suggested to the Grow and Glow Garden Club in care of the funeral home.
