Ann Elaine Snelling, age 83, of Belton, formerly of Stover, passed away early Friday morning, April 3, 2015 at her home, with family members by her side.
She was born December 14, 1931, on the Rastorfer farm at Haw Creek west of Stover, the only child of James U. and Nellie Mae McCray Rastorfer.
At the age of 12, Ann Elaine made her profession of faith and was baptized at the Stover First Baptist Church.
On September 3, 1950, Ann Elaine was united in marriage to J. Wayne Snelling at the Stover First Baptist Church. Wayne survives at their home in Belton.
She was a 1949 graduate of Stover High School. She also attended Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar.
Ann Elaine was a homemaker, busy raising her three children and supporting her husband in his work.
Wayne's job took him to Springfield, where for 16 years Ann Elaine cooked Wednesday night suppers at the National Heights Baptist Church.
Following his retirement, Ann Elaine and Wayne returned to Stover, to care for her mother and aunt. While in Stover, she was an active and faithful member of the Stover First Baptist Church and the Galloway-Martens American Legion Post 343 Auxiliary, along with various other community events and clubs.
Ann Elaine and Wayne moved from Stover to Freeman, to be closer to family. Always a person to stay busy, it didn't take long before she had joined the Freeman Community Club, where she enjoyed making new friends. Her love of gardening led to a second career of raising and selling vegetables at the local farmers market.
In 2010, they made a final move to Belton, residing just a few blocks from their daughter.
At the time of her death she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Peculiar, where she was active in the WMU, sang in the choir and participated in the Prayer Shawl Group.
In addition to her husband of 64 years, she is survived by three children, Wanda Mae Cox and husband Craig of Belton; Dr. Ronald Dale Snelling of Midlothian, Virginia, and Kenneth Paul Snelling and wife Kathy of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren; along with several cousins and many friends.
Ann Elaine was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter-in-law, Beth Elaine Pryor Snelling.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 9, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover with Pastor Tim Redding, Pastor Will Challacombe and Pastor Kenny Shewmaker officiating. Interment will be in the Stover Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home on Thursday.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Peculiar.
There will also be a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at the First Baptist Church of Peculiar, 216 E Broadway, Peculiar, MO 64078.
