Alta moved to Wichita shortly after finishing high school and worked at Boeing Aircraft Company during the War. She returned to Boeing in 1946 when they started up again to modify B-29 airplanes and later manufactured the first jet bombers, the B-47. It was while at Boeing that she met Connie C. When Connie was transferred to Block’s National Office in Kansas City, Alta worked as a tax consultant in the Mission, Kansas office for twelve years.
Upon retiring and moving to Venture Valley at Lake of the Ozarks, Alta had more time to spend on painting pictures, sewing quilts and blankets, and making pillows. She gave these to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends for Christmas, birthdays, and special occasions. She entered many of her paintings in art shows and won numerous prizes and honorable mentions over the years.
She also enjoyed playing cards every week with the ladies in Venture Valley.
Alta and Connie sold their Lake Place and moved to Sedalia in 2006 to be nearer to the doctors and hospital if needed. They later moved to Olathe, Kansas to be close their daughter and grandchildren.
She is survived by one son, Robert D. Walsh of Henderson, Tennessee; three daughters, Dena Burkett and husband Don of Overland Park, Kansas and Beverly Beggs and husband George of Kansas City, Gloria Tyree and husband Bob of Eugene, Oregon; and 12 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Connie, and her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jack Walsh; three sisters, Emmalieu Bailey, Rosie Broom, and Mildred Broom; one grandson and three great grandchildren.
Alta and Connie also extended helping hands to three young children, Gloria, Mick and Mark, and took them into their family until conditions allowed them to return to their own families. They were always considered a part of their family.
