Alice G. Koestner, age 95, of Russellville, died Monday, December 7, 2009, at Heisinger Bluffs in Jefferson City.
She was born November 14, 1914, in Boone County, a daughter of Thomas and Minnie Emma Adkins Teel, both deceased.
She married Aldo Kirchner, who preceded her in death. She married Otto H. Koestner, October 4, 1941, in Jefferson City. He preceded her in death December 31, 1980.
She was a homemaker, busy raising her children, and for 21 years, Alice and Otto were foster parents to many children in Cole County.
She was also a devoted wife, caring for her husband throughout the several years he was ill.
She enjoyed being on the family farm near Russellville, working in the garden and raising Bees. She was an accomplished musician, playing the piano, violin, juice harp and guitar. In her younger years she sang on the radio and at local events. Alice enjoyed the times she could spend with the grandchildren, telling stories. She also enjoyed quilting and in her later years stayed busy making lap robes for the elderly.
On March 29, 1942, Alice joined the St. Pauls Lutheran Church at Lohman. She moved her membership to the Trinity Lutheran Church in Russellville on June 10, 1948, where she remained a member until her death.
Survivors include four children, Darrell Kirchner and wife Joyce, Harley Koestner and wife Joan and Wanda Larimore and husband David all of Russellville and Linda Smith and husband Dale of Jefferson City; a niece she raised, Carol Ott and husband Herman, Jr., of Russellville; eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Willard and Homer Teel, one sister, Lena Hoskins, three half-brothers, Elmer, Fred and Owen Teel and one half-sister, Minnie Lee Shouse.
Services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, December 10, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Russellville with Pastor David Carlson officiating. Interment will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 9, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church or Cemetery.
